STORRS, Conn. - Fifteen different Minutemen scored points leading the Massachusetts men's track and field team to a fourth-place finish at the UConn Select Invitational on Saturday. Senior Henry Smith (Ellington, Conn.) was one of three Minutemen to post season-best marks.

Smith finished second overall in the triple jump with a mark of 46-feet, 10 inches.

Field events were strong for UMass as senior Mike Carr (Rehoboth, Mass.) again recorded a first-place finish in the javelin with his toss of 187-feet, 9 inches.

Junior Chris Brayley (Chicopee, Mass.), junior Steve Miceli (Mashpee, Mass.), and freshman Nathan Barksdale (Valparaiso, Ind.) led the sprint corps on the day.

Brayley took second in the 100-meter dash (11.23 seconds), Miceli took fourth in the 200-meter dash (22.99 seconds), and Barksdale took third in the 400-meter dash (50.25 seconds) recording 19 total points for UMass.

In the long jump, senior Derek Swart (Southboro, Mass.) finished seventh in the long jump (22-5.75) for his best mark of the season. Also finishing seventh was sophomore Jon Morse (Seekonk, Mass.) who recorded his fastest time this season in the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.21). Both marks were tops this season for the Minutemen.

UMass will return to action next Saturday as they return to Storrs for the UConn Husky Invitational.
