Track & Field Teams Post Good Showings At New Hampshire Invitational

DURHAM, N.H. - Five members of the men's track team, led by Mike Carr (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Tyler Gasper (Bellingham, Mass.) who qualified for the IC4A Championships, set personal best marks at the New Hampshire Wildcat Invitational this weekend. The women's team recorded 26 top-10 finishes highlighted by Christina Huff's (Springfield, Mass.) win in the 100 meters and second-place finish in the 200 meters.
Carr and Gasper each qualified for the IC4A Championships recording the fourth and fifth best marks in school history for the post-1986 javelin throw. Carr took first with his career-best mark of 197 feet, four inches, while Gasper finished second with a personal-best mark of 193 feet, three inches.
Jon Korhonen (Gardner, Mass.) won the 1,500 meter race in 3:54.31 which was a career-best effort, while Wes Jones (Marblehead, Mass.) and James Godinho (Sandwich, Mass.) each ran personal-best times in the 800 meters. Jones finished second in 1:56.46, while Godinho took fourth in 1:57.10.
In the triple jump, UMass fared well as Henry Smith (Ellington, Conn.) won the event with his mark of 45 feet, 7.25 inches and Derek Swart (Southboro, Mass.) took third with a career-best leap of 42 feet, six inches.
In women's action, Huff won the 100 meter dash with her time of 12.66 seconds. She also took second in the 200 meters to record two of the teams 26 top-10 event finishes.
Shaving 13.30 seconds off her 5,000 meter time to set a new career-best time, Amanda Dahlberg (Gardner, Mass.) finished fifth in the race clocking a time of 18:38.15.
Marissa Callahan (Bangkok, Thailand) rounded out the career-best performers as she finished second in the triple jump (36-5.50).
The Minutewomen relays gave strong performances as the 4x400 meter relay team took first and the 4x100 meter relay team took second at the meet.
Next weekend both the men's and women's teams will head to the Brown Invitational in Providence, R.I.
