Men No. 14, Women No. 17 In First Mid-Major Poll

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass men's and women's swimming and diving programs are ranked in the first of four Mid-Major Division 1 Polls for the 2012-2013 season. Russ Yarworth's men's program is ranked at No. 14, while Bob Newcomb has led his women's program to a No. 17 ranking. Both teams will be traveling to the Terrier Invitational hosted by Boston University this weekend.

Of the Minutemen's opponents this season three are ranked in the top-25. Army is ranked the highest at No. 8, while Binghamton is ranked at No. 21 and Fordham is ranked at No. 23. Bryant also received consideration ranked just outside of the top-25. At the start of the season the Minutemen fell to Army 172-123 and recorded a 191-126 victory at Binghamton. Three other Atlantic 10 programs are in the top-25 with St. Bonaventure ranked at No. 10, La Salle at No. 17 and Xavier at No. 25.

Of the Minutewomen's opponents this season only Fordham is in the top-25 rounding out the list. Binghamton and Army also received consideration outside of the top-25. This season UMass has recorded a 170-122 win over Army and a 196.5-122.5 victory at Binghamton. Four other Atlantic 10 programs, Xavier, St. Bonaventure, Duquesne and La Salle, are receiving consideration outside of the top-25.

Following the Terrier Invitational this weekend the Minutemen will host Yale from Joseph Rogers Pool on December 3 with the meet scheduled to start at 1 p.m. The Minutewomen will travel to Boston to compete against Northeastern on the same day with the meet kicking off at noon.
