UMass Hosts Binghamton In Invitational-Style Dual Meet
Oct. 31, 2013
The Massachusetts men's and women's swimming & diving teams will welcome Binghamton to the Joseph. R. Rogers, Jr. Pool this weekend for what promises to be an exciting two days of action in the water.
Friday's events will begin at 4 p.m. with women's 3-meter diving and men's 1-meter competition. The swimming action will get underway at 6 p.m. All of Friday's action will be video streamed at UMassAthletics.com via the Atlantic 10 Digital Network.
On Saturday, swimming will start things off at 10 a.m., followed by two more diving events at 1 p.m., before another two-hour block of swimming 3 p.m.
The extended multi-day format will give coaches a chance to put their teams through the type of meet setting that more closely mirrors a championship-style events that they will encounter at the end of the season.
With anywhere from 3-6 heats in all 15 races, it will give the coaches and fans plenty of opportunities to see their favorite athletes in multiple events. In a traditional dual meet, athletes are limited to a maximum of three individual events and four total, including relays.
This weekend's meet will mirror the format of most championship meets and show the standard 100 and 200-yard distances of the four strokes, with a few longer events for the first time this season, including the 400 individual medley.
UMass last raced two weeks ago when it competed at Army. The women fell 163-137 and the men lost 197-97.
This will be the first meet of the season for Binghamton. The Bearcats are coached by Sean Clark, a 1993 UMass graduate who also served as a volunteer and full-time assistant coach for Russ Yarworth over seven seasons in the mid 1990s and early 2000s. Clark also coached the Amherst Tritons Swim Club and South Hadley High School.
