Massachusetts Adds Joe Woodman To Men's Swimming Roster

AMHERST, Mass. - Massachusetts men's swimming & diving coach Russ Yarworth has announced that transfer Joe Woodman has enrolled in school and will join the program this season.

Woodman is a 6-foot-3, 180-pound freestyler from State College, Pa. He spent his one season at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa. His top times include 1:41.60 in the 200 Free, 4:37.11 in the 500 Free and 9:35.46 in the 1000 Free.

"Joe is going to bring front line depth to our Freestyle group," Yarworth said. "He's got a great attitude and work ethic as he's prepared himself for the jump to Division I swimming here at UMass."

He set a school-record in the 500 Free at the Presidents Athletic Conference Championships as he became the first Bearcat in program history to claim an individual crown at a league champs. He was also swam the lead leg on the 800 free relay that established a new SVC record.

Woodman also swam for the Nittany Lion Aquatic Club where he broke the club short course records in the 200 and 1000 free, and the long course marks in the 100, 200 and 400 Free.

He was a team captain, district champion and qualified for the Pennsylvania State Championships while at State College Area High School.
