AMHERST, Mass. - This week the UMass Sports Luncheon Committee named swimming and diving tandem Chris Inglis and Michaela Butler the male and female Winter Scholar-Athlete for the 2012-13 season. The two athletes were recently honored at the UMass Weekly Sports Luncheon. This is Butler's second-consecutive Winter-Scholar Athlete honor.

Inglis was a leader in and out of the pool for the UMass men serving as co-captain for the 2012-13 season. The junior from Mashpee, Mass. posted a NCAA B standard time in the 200-yard freestyle relay en route to a gold medal finish and First Team All-Conference honors at the 2013 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships. His time of 1:36.80 was fast enough to break his previous conference and school records.

Inglis boasts a 3.723 grade point average in chemical engineering. His outstanding work in the classroom earned him his second-consecutive Academic All-Conference honor.

Butler was dominant for the Minutewomen during the 2012-13 season setting all of the schools diving records over the course of the year. The redshirt junior from Dennisport, Mass. finished off her second-consecutive undefeated regular season before sweeping gold on both the one- and three-meter springboards at the 2013 A-10 Swimming and Diving Championships. Her success throughout the season earned her A-10 Diver of the Year honors for the second time in as many years.

At the NCAA Zone A Regional she posted a third-place finish on the one-meter and a fourth-place finish on the three-meter board, becoming the first women's swimming and diving athlete to qualify for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. At the national meet Butler finished fourth on the one-meter springboard earning her First Team All-America honors, she would also take 14th in the three-meter event.

Out of the pool the divers performance was just as strong, posting a 3.536 GPA. The kinesiology major was also named to the 2013 A-10 Academic All-Conference Team.
