AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass men's swimming and diving team has been ranked No. 18 in the final TYR/CSCAA Division I Mid-Major Rankings of the 2011-12 season. The Minutemen dropped one spot from the last ranking when they sat at No. 17.

The Mid-Major rankings use an objective point system to compare teams' relative strength in a traditional dual meet lineup as submitted by participating teams. The ranking is available to those institutions that a) are not members of a BCS conference or Mountain West Conference, or b) provide fewer than one-half of the allowable scholarships under the NCAA rules. Teams must have submitted entries within the first two polling periods to be eligible for the final ranking.

Of UMass' opponents this season only Dartmouth (No. 12), Boston University (No. 19), St. Bonaventure (No. 20 and Army (No. 22) cracked the top-25. Of the Minutemen's other opponents lying just outside the top-25 are Fordham, Binghamton, George Washington, Xavier and Bryant.

The Minutemen closed out the 2011-12 season by winning the Atlantic 10 Championship for the sixth straight time.
