AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass men's and women's swimming and diving teams will head to Dartmouth College on Friday January 25 for the third-annual Upper Valley Invitational. The two-day trial/finals formatted meet is set to begin at 5 p.m. on Friday evening, and will resume Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Along with UMass, Dartmouth will play host to Boston University, Boston College, Northeastern, Maine, Connecticut College and Vermont.

The Minutemen are 2-4 in dual-meets this season and have won both the Terrier and the Rhode Island Invitational. UMass has already matched against BU and BC. The Minutemen fell to the Terriers 182.5-116.5 in the season-opener, and then proceeded to defeat both BU and BC at the Terrier Invitational. UMass will face off against Dartmouth, which is 2-2 in competition this season, along with Maine (3-2) and Connecticut College (6-3).

The men's squad is coming off a 185-104 defeat of Bryant University on Senior Day last weekend. The teams five seniors, Peter Sacco, Eric Zeimetz, Tim O "Neill, Beau Garufi and Alexander Merkulov, led UMass. Together the group picked up nine first-place finishes.

The Minutewomen are 4-2 in dual-meets this season and picked up a first-place finish in the Rhode Island Invitational and a second-place finish in the Terrier Invitational. The women have defeated BU and BC already this season at the Terrier. UMass also beat Northeastern head-to-head this season, 158-142. The Minutewomen will also go up against Dartmouth, which is 3-3 in dual-meets, Vermont (8-5), Maine (3-4) and Connecticut College (7-2).

The women are also coming off a win over Bryant, knocking off the Bulldogs, 180-119. The trio of Jocelyn Yuen, Katie Arnott and Zoe Judd led UMass, each taking home two first-place finishes.

 

 

Following the Upper Valley Invitational the men and women will travel to Bronx, N.Y. to take on conference foe Fordham in the final dual-meet of the 2012-13 season. With just under a month until Atlantic 10's the teams will soon be kicking into high gear in order to peak by the time the conference championships come around.
