BOSTON, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts swim teams both downed Boston University this afternoon. The men won by a score of 181-113, while the women were victorious, 153-147.

In the men's win, nine Minutemen won individual events and one relay team took first place. Sophomore Dylan Smith (Timmonium, Md.) led the Minutemen with three three-first place finishes. He won the 100-yard backstroke (54.80), the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.14) and the 100-yard butterfly (52.37). Senior Tommy Keane (Melrose, Mass.) finished first in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:58.25) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:50.37), while sophomore Matt Woodward (Waterboro, Maine) finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.26) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.94).

Also placing first for the Minutemen were senior Rob Bellamy (Columbia, Md.) and sophomore Glenn Ginnish (Lincoln, R.I.). They won the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.30) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:16.94), respectively. Also victorious was the 200-yard medley relay team of junior Connor Townsend (Memphis, Tenn.), sophomore Ryan Matthews (Rumson, N.J.), Smith and Woodward. They finished in a time of 1:38.20.

The Minutewomen captured six individual events and one relay in a much closer meet. Junior Christen Dexter (Centerville, Mass.) led the way with two first-place finishes. She won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.65) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:24.51). Also victorious were senior Catherine Getty (Wayne, N.J.), junior Lauren Rowell (Hamburg, N.Y.) and freshman Aimee Bourassa (Ottawa, Ontario). They were first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.64), 100-yard backstroke (1:01.25) and 500-yard freestyle (5:15.74), respectively.

 

 

The Minutewoman 200-yard medley relay team of junior Diana Alberti (Wantagh, N.Y.), senior Lizzy Boyle (Darien, Conn.), Rowell and Dexter won in a time of 1:51.37.

Both squads will enjoy a week off before competing in a dual meet at St. John's on Nov. 23 at 1:00 p.m.
