Men's, Women's Swimming & Diving Sweeps Southern Connecticut State in Home Opener

AMHERST, Mass. - Dylan Smith (Timonium, Md.) led the Massachusett's men's swimming and diving team to a 189-to-106 win over Southern Connecticut State in the Minutemen's home opener meet on Sunday posting three individual event victories. In women's action, the Minutewomen defeated the Owls by a margin of 171.50-to-122.50 led by Aimee Bourassa (Ottawa, Ontario), Kelly Hoffrage (St. Charles, Ill.), Nicole LeBarge (Lee, N.H.), and Melissa Stango (Cheshire, Conn.) who each won two individual events.
Smith won the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:02.45), the 200-yard butterfly (1:56.46) and the 100-yard butterfly (51.60) - all of which were season-best performances.
Evan Swisher (North Bennington, Vt.) won the 100-yard back in 52.49 and the 200-yard back in 1:52.36, while Jake Hogue (Grand Junction, Colo.) posted victories in the 200-yard breast (2:13.33) and the 100-yard breast (1:00.53). Justin Zeimetz (Rochester, N.H.) took the 100-yard free (47.65) and the 50-yard free (21.51). Zeimetz remains undefeated this season in the 50-yard freestyle with the win.
On the women's side, Bourassa led the Minutewomen in the 1,000-yard free (10:54.44) and the 500-yard free (5:15.15), while LeBarge controlled the sprint events winning the 50-yard free (24.95) and the 100-yard free (54.09).
Hoffrage added wins in the 200-yard back (2:12.92) and the 200-yard free (1:56.24), while Stango rounded out the top UMass performances with a pair of victories in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.47) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:32.81).
Freshman Susan Allen (Pittsford, N.Y.) earned her first collegiate victory winning the 100-yard back in 61.63 seconds.
Both Massachusetts swimming and diving teams return to action next Saturday (Nov. 13) when the Minutemen travel to Boston University. The meet is slated to start at 1:00 p.m.
