AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass men's and women's swimming and diving teams both pulled the victory this weekend following their two-day trip to Binghamton University. The Minutewomen defeated the Bearcats 196.5-122.5, while the Minutemen also won by a score of 191-126. This was the first action each team has seen since their split against Army at home two weeks ago.

The women saw an outstanding performance from freshman Jocelyn Yuen. The Princeton, N.J. native finished with three individual victories along with one in the 200-yard freestyle relay. She was able to claim first in both butterfly events, finishing with times of 59.01 in the 100 and 2:09.27 in the 200. She was also able to touch first in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:09.98. As a member of the 200 free relay team Yuen, along with Zoe Judd, Amina Meho and Cassis Sosnovich, finished with a time of 1:38.94.

Sophomores Katie Arnott and Judd both had multiple first-place finishes as well. Arnott was able to take the 400 IM and the 200-yard breaststroke, with times of 4:39.62 and 2:25.34, respectively. She also took second in the 100 breast. Judd was able to win both the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events with times of 53.39 and 1:54.44 in each.

On the boards Michaela Butler once again swept both the one and three meter events. The Minutewomen swept the one-meter with Butler pulling in a score of 238.20, she was followed by Molly Elkins (230.48) and Rachel Dushman (228.45). In the three-meter Butler set a personal best score with a 300.45, she was followed by Mary Atkinson in second (221.77).

 

 

For the Minutemen, Alessandro Bomprezzi was able to pick up his first and second collegiate victory in both the 1000- and 500-yard freestyle events. In the 1000 he finished with a time of 9:51.56, while finishing at 4:44.44 in the 500. In both events the freshman finished just ahead of his team Chris Inglis, who would go on to win the 200-yard free with a time of 1:43.98.

Michael Glenn had an exceptional two-days in the pool taking first in three events. The Overland Park, Kan. native swept the breaststroke finishing with times of 58.05 in the 100 and 2:06.20 in the 200. He also was able to notch the victory in the 400 IM with a time of 4:12.21.

Freshman Josh Koppel picked up his first collegiate victory in the three-meter dive finishing with a score of 302.33. He came in just ahead of teammate Alexander Merkulov who finished with a score of 296.63. The tandom with switch spots in the one-meter with Merkulov taking the win with a score of 292.87, while Koppel finished with 254.77.

Both teams will be on the road again next weekend as they travel to Providence, R.I. to take on Brown University on Saturday November 10. The meet is scheduled to start off at 1 p.m.
