PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The University of Massachusetts men's and women's swim teams traveled to Providence, R.I. for the Brown Invitational this past weekend. The men's team took the top spot in the 300-yard backstroke relay, while the women's squad finished second in several events.

The winning 300-yard backstroke team consisted of freshman Evan Swisher (N. Bennington, Vt.), senior Conner Townsend (Memphis Tenn.) and junior Dylan Smith (Timonium, Md.). The men also placed second in the 300-yard fly, 300-yard breast, 300-yard back, 1500-yard free, 400-yard free, 150-yard fly, 150-yard back, 800-yard IM and 100-yard free relay events. Third-place honors were garnered in the 400-yard medley, 400-yard IM, 800-yard free, 150-yard breast and 150-yard backstroke relays.

The women's team saw six second-place finishes, and four third-place efforts. The second-place finish in the 400-yard butterfly was registered by the team of senior captains Lauren Rowell (Hamburg, N.Y.), Christen Dexer (Centerville, Mass.) and Diana Alberti (Wantagh, N.Y.), and sophomore Aimee Bourassa (Ottawa, Ontario). Other second-place efforts came in the 300-yard fly, 300-yard breast, 400-yard IM, 150-yard fly, 150-yard breast and 800-yard IM relays. The squad also registered third place finishes in the 400-yard free, 200-yard free, 400-yard medley and 100-yard free relays.

The UMass swimming and diving teams will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 8, as they host Boston University in the first home meet of the season. The competition will start at 1:00 p.m, and will be held at the Joseph Rogers Pool in Boyden Gymnasium.
