NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -- The University of Massachusetts men's and women's swimming and diving teams both dominated the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils Saturday afternoon at the Jack Suydam Natatorium. The Minutemen won by a score of 190-42, while the Minutewomen were victorious 154-81.

Junior Kate Allery (South Hadley, Mass.) led the Minutewomen with a first place finish in both the one-meter (233.43) and three-meter dives (223.43). This marked the second consecutive weekend that she was victorious in both of these events. Also picking up wins for the Minutewomen were junior Lizzy Boyle (Darien, Conn.) in the 50-yard free (25.43), senior Andrea Kazanjian (Troy, N.Y.) in the 100-yard free (54.68), senior Becky Hunnewell (Sandwich, Mass.) in the 200-yard backstroke (2:11.52), senior Anne Dettloff (Barrington, Ill.) in the 500-yard free (5:24.77) and sophomore Christen Dexter (Centerville, Mass.) in the 200-yard breast (2:24.53).

Freshman Dylan Smith (Timonium, Md.) led the Minutemen with first place finishes in the 1000-yard free (10:00.53) as well as the 200-yard butterfly (1:59.22). Junior Rob Bellamy (Columbia, Mo.) and sophomore Peter Tawczynski (Holden, Mass.) were also multiple-event winners. Bellamy placed first in the 200-yard free (1:49.05) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:59.33), while Tawczynski was victorious in the 400-yard individual medley (4:12.19) as well as the 200-yard breast (2:10.66). Also picking up multiple wins for UMass was sophomore Logan Alomar (Silver Spring, Md.). He placed first in the one-meter (266.03) as well as the three-meter dive (240.6).

 

 

UMass returns to competition when they host Boston University on Nov. 10 at 4:00 p.m.
