The University of Massachusetts men's swimming team sent three individuals to
participate in the ECAC Championships at Harvard. Greg Braun (Sophomore), Chris Howard (Freshman), and Brendan Jones (Freshman) led the UMass Minutemen to a sixteenth place finish. There were eighteen schools in the competition. The winning school, Harvard, had 27 participants in the competition. The fact that UMass only had three swimmers in the competition was reflected in the sixteenth place finish.
Brendan Jones led the way for the Minutemen with a strong performance. Jones came away with a third place finish in the 1650 yard freestyle with a time of 16:28.49 seconds. He also finished 15th in the 500 yard freestyle. His time of 4:47.50 was two seconds off of his season best time.
Chris Howard also had a strong showing as he finished fourth in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 21.26 seconds, exceeding his previous high of 22.61. He also finished 16th in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 48.62 seconds, which just surpassed his previous season high of 48.85 seconds.
Greg Braun finished 18th in the prelims for the 50 yard freestyle. The Minutemen finished with 25 points and their highest seeding throughout the competition was 11th.
The Minutemen return to action on Wednesday for the Atlantic 10 Championships.
