Men's Swim Team Defeats Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts men's swimming and diving team won its dual meet with Boston College on Saturday, 197-101. The Minutemen took 13 of the 16 total events in the victory.
Leading the way for the men's team was freshman Evan Swisher (N. Bennington, Vt.), who took top honors in three events. Swisher won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 53.32 and the 200-yard backstroke with a mark of 1:52.76. He then went on to post a time of 1:58.51 in the 200-yard IM, also good for first place. Swisher also swam the first leg on the winning 200-yard medley relay team. Freshman Greg Chartier (Amherst, Mass.) also posted multiple wins, taking first-place honors in the 500-yard freestyle and the 1000-yard free, with respective times of 4:51.23 and 10:02.58. Other swimmers posting Minuteman victories were junior Owen Scollan (Lowell, Mass.) in the 200-yard free (1:47.24), junior Dylan Smith (Timonium, Md.) in the 100-yard fly (52.75), junior Justin Zeimetz (Rochester, N.H.) in the 50-yard free (22.03) and freshman Jake Hogue (Grand Junction, Colo.) in the 200-yard breast (2:12.60). Smith also swam the third leg on the winning 200-yard medley relay team, while Zeimetz anchored the winning 400-yard freestyle team.
In the diving events, senior Logan Alomar (Silver Spring, Md.) and junior Brandon Doane (Danvers, Mass.) each won one event, and took second in the other. Alomar won the one-meter dive with a score of 294.97, then took second in the three-meter dive with a mark of 290.25. Doane won the three-meter with a score of 298.50, while taking second in the one-meter with a mark of 276.97.
The UMass men's swimming and diving team will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 31, as they host Fordham at Joseph R. Rogers, Jr. pool in Boyden Gymnasium. The meet begins at 1:00 p.m.
