Swim Teams Fall To UMBC

AMHERST, Mass. -- The Massachusetts women's swim team defeated Central Connecticut, 178-104, but UMBC defeated both the UMass men's and women's teams on Saturday at Joseph R. Rogers, Jr. Pool.
The Minutemen, competing against only UMBC on Saturday, were led by first place finishes from junior Logan Alomar (Silver Spring, Md.) and senior Tommy Keane (Melrose, Mass.). Alomar won the 1-meter dive with a total of 247.35. His teammate, sophomore Brandon Doane (Danvers, Mass.) finished second with 230.17 points. Alomar also finished first in the 3-meter dive at 279.75.
Keane won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:41.14, topping senior Rob Bellamy (Columbia, Md.), who finished in third place at 5:00.30. Keane also edged out Bellamy in the 200-yard freestyle, taking second place at 1:44.97 while Bellamy finished third at 1:46.06.
The Minutewomen were led by senior Kate Allery (South Hadley) and their 400-yard freestyle relay team. Allery won both the 1-meter and the 3-meter diving events, posting scores of 249.00 and 285.91, respectively. The senior's score in the 3-meter dive is her best effort yet this season.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of seniors Lizzy Boyle (Darien, Conn.), Catherine Getty (Wayne, N.J.) and Molly Buckley (Taunton, Mass.), along with freshman Aimee Bourassa (Ottawa, Ontario), took first place in the event with a time of 3:40.83. Bourassa also performed well in the 500-yard freestyle, taking second place with a time of 5:16.04. Buckley also finished second in the 100-yard butterfly at 59.90.
The Minutewomen will travel to Northeastern on Sunday, Jan. 19, for a 1:00 p.m. meet.
