AMHERST, Mass.- The University of Massachusetts swimming and diving teams swept the Rhode Island Invitational this weekend as the Minutewomen topped URI (325) and La Salle (270) with a score of 435 points and the Minutemen used 538 points to defeat Dartmouth (508), La Salle (362) and Rhode Island (330).

Senior Becky Hunnewell (Sandwich, Mass.) and junior Kate Allery (South Hadley, Mass.) were double-winners for the Minutewomen as Hunnewell won the 100-yard back (1:00.64) and 200-yard back (2:07.43) and Allery took the dive events with a 435.98 mark in the three-meter and 242.35 score in the one-meter.

Other individual winners for the Minutewomen included junior Molly Buckley (Taunton, Mass.) in the 50-yard free (25.54), Andrea Kazanjian (Troy, N.Y.) in the 100-yard free (55.43) and sophomore Christen Dexter (Centerville, Mass.) in the 200-yard breast (2:29.06).

The Minutemen also had numerous event champions led by junior co-captain Rob Bellamy (Columbia, Md.) in the 200-yard free (1:47.33), junior Justin Houck (Wyomissing, Pa.) in the 200-yard back (1:55.52), junior Peter Tawczynski (Holden, Mass.) in the 200-yard breast (2:12.37), sophomore Logan Alomar (Silver Spring, Md.) in the one-meter dive (262.88) and freshman Dylan Smith (Timonium, Md.) in the 200-yard fly (1:56.19).

UMass hits the pool again Jan. 19 as it hosts the University of Maryland-Baltimore County for a 1:00 p.m. dual meet at Joseph R. Rogers, Jr. Pool.
