Day One Results | Day One Scores

AMHERST, Mass. - The men's swimming and diving team wrapped up day one of the Rhode Island Invitational sitting in first place with 212 total points. The Minutemen sit ahead of La Salle (149), George Washington (143) and Rhode Island (46). Day two action will begin on Saturday January 12 at 10:30 a.m.

The Minutemen finished first in five of six events on Friday. Peter Sacco led the way for UMass anchoring both the 400-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay, en route to top finishes with times of 3:30.14 and 1:26.72, respectively. The senior from Rochester, Mass. was also able to pick up an individual first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 21.46.

Chris Inglis notched the win for UMass in the 500-yard freestyle, with a time of 4:44.22. In the 200-yard IM, the only event the Minutemen did not win, Troy Nichols finished in second at 1:57.36, ahead of both Tim O'Neill in fourth and Ryan Bobianski in fifth.

On the boards the Minutemen took the top two spots in the three-meter, led by Josh Koppel. The freshman took the top-spot with a score of 277.35. Alexander Merkulov took second-place with a score of 259.10.
