Ben Arikian Headlines A-10 Men's Soccer Preseason All-Conference Team UMass rising junior Ben Arikian, the reigning Atlantic 10 Midfielder of the Year, headlines the 2009 A-10 preseason men's soccer All-Conference team, as selected by the league's head coaches. Arikian led the Minutemen in points (15) and assists (seven), while his assist total ranked third in the A-10 last season. He contributed four goals on the year and scored or assisted the game-winning goal in nine of Massachusetts' 10 wins. (more)
Saint Louis women's basketball standout Theresa Lisch and Massachusetts goaltender Zack Simmons have been named the Atlantic 10 female and male Scholar-Athletes of the Year in voting conducted among the Conference's directors of athletics. Coming off its second consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament, the University of Massachusetts men's soccer team is gearing up for the 2009 season as head coach Sam Koch announced the fall schedule today. The slate features eight matches at Rudd Field with the season-opener set for Tuesday, Sept. 1 against Boston University.

With 824 fans in attendance at Rudd Field, the UMass men's soccer team and the defending National Champion Maryland Terrapins battled to a 0-0 draw in the Supercuts 2009 Soccerfest Friday Night Showdown. The Terps outshot UMass 19-to-6 for the game, but the Minutemen made their chances count on a point blank header save and a shot that clanged off the left post - both by rising senior Mark DeSantis. UMass is coming off a fall 2008 season where the Minutemen made the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season.
The UMass men's soccer team faces defending National Champion Maryland at Rudd Field on Friday, May 1 at 5:00 p.m. to kick off the Sport Management department's annual SoccerFest. The Friday Night Showdown will be free to all SuperCuts SoccerFest participants. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults and $2 for students at the gate. The game will be followed by a free autograph session with the players, including graduated senior and Revolution goalie Zach Simmons.
After finishing their UMass careers as three of the best players to ever wear the Maroon & White, Zack Simmons, Chris Brown, and Mike DeSantis have been chosen to participate in the annual New England Intercollegiate Soccer League All-Star Game. The match selects the top senior players from all three NCAA divisions in schools throughout New England. It is scheduled to be played on May 2 (2 PM) at Clark University in Worcester.
