NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Massachusetts' Cody Sitton has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week for matches played Oct. 14-20.

The freshman from Largo, Fla. scored two goals in UMass' 3-1 win over rival Rhode Island as the Minutemen picked up their first points of the A-10 season, moving into a tie for seventh two weeks into theleague slate. They were his first two career goals and helped UMass secure its second-straight home victory. His first score came in the 25th minute after a URI turnover and tied the game at 1-1. His second goal was on an assist from leading scorer Josh Schwartz just over a minute into the second half to put the Minutemen ahead 3-1.

He is the third Minutemen player to earn a weekly award this season joining classmate Nick Ruiz's with a Rookie of the Week and Schwartz as the Player of the Week in early October.

UMass will have a split weekend coming up, playing at Fordham on Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. before returning home to Rudd Field - where it has now won two straight - and face George Washington on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m..

The Minutemen have scored nine goals in their last four games after just three in their first nine.
