UMass Takes On Hartford In Fourth Straight Road Contest; Looking For First `Away' Win Of Season
UMass continues its season-opening road swing as the Minutemen head to Hartford on Tuesday night. The game will be the first ever on the new Al-Marzook Field.
The Minutemen are 5-10-1 all-time against Hartford, but won last season's contest by a 3-2 tally.
Recent history has been kind to UMass in the series as the Minutemen have won two of the last three contests.
UMass last won in Hartford on Sept. 7, 1999 - a 1-0 overtime victory.
Senior co-captain Oral Bullen (Brooklyn, N.Y.) leads UMass with two goals and an assist in the early goings of the season. Junior Michael Donnelly (Warminster, Pa.) is second on the scoring charts with a goal and an assist. Sophomore Matty Lemire (Ipswich, Mass.) and freshman Tony Bassett (San Francisco, Calif.) have also added goals on the season.
Four Hawks have tallied goals this season led by Kenniel Martin who has a goal and an assist on the season.
UMass keeper Zack Simmons (Durham, N.H.) and Hartford keeper Ryan Carr are posting similar numbers on the season. Simmons has started all three games making 22 saves while allowing 1.67 goals per game. Carr has also started all three games making 18 saves and allowing 1.47 goals per game.
This is the first time since 1991 that UMass has started a season with four road games. In 1991, the Minutemen played in five away games before coming back to Amherst. That season, UMass was 3-1-1 with their final road game at Hartford. The Hawks won that game 3-0.
