Sept. 10, 2007
AMHERST, Mass. - Doug Rappaport of Men's Soccer and Charles Walker of Football have been named UMass/Dinn Bros. Co-Athletes of the Week. Rappaport scored two goals on his only two shots of the week, leading the Minutemen to a 2-1 week. Walker had ten tackles, a forced fumble and, a recovery, in UMass' 35-17 victory over Colgate. They will be honored at the Weekly Sports Luncheon on Wednesday, September 12 to be held at the Campus Center room 1009, at 12 noon.
Rappaport's first career goal came on Monday (9/3) at Dartmouth, leading UMass to the 2-1 win. It marked only the fifth win against Dartmouth in 30 games for the Minutemen. Then on Friday, (9/7) against Vermont, he put home his first career game-winning goal off a penalty kick in overtime. The Minutemen defeated the Catamounts, 2-1.
Redshirt senior Charles Walker led the way on defense in football's 35-17 win over Colgate on Saturday. The linebacker forced one fumble and recovered another. In the first quarter, he forced a fumble on a punt. He also scooped up a crucial fumble recovery in the third. The UMass defense buckled down in the second half, only giving up seven points and 82 yards in the final 30 minutes.
The luncheon will take place on Wednesday, September 12 in the Campus Center room 1009 at 12 noon. Guest speakers will be Head Football Coach Don Brown and Head Soccer Coach Sam Koch.
