PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The University of Massachusetts men's soccer team recorded one of its finest defensive performances of the year in UMass' 3-0 win over Temple on Friday afternoon. The win moves UMass' record to 10-4-1 overall and 6-0-1 in the Atlantic 10.

The Minutemen took a 1-0 lead midway through the first period as Jeff Deren (Chicopee, Mass.) tallied his 16th goal of the season with an assist from Dan Colwell (Spencer, Mass.). Deren found himself on a breakaway and buried a shot in the top corner at the 19:20 mark. The goal made Deren the first player in UMass history to score 100 points in a career.

UMass still led 1-0, when Andrew Eicher (Billerica, Mass.) scored his second goal of the season in the 52nd minute. The goal came via Jason Scudamore (Shaker Heights, Ohio) as Eicher blasted a shot into the back of the net from about 10 yards out.

The Minutemen got all the insurance they would need as Ptah Myers (Columbus, Ohio) banged home an unassisted goal at the 86-minute mark. The Temple goalie got caught out of the net and Myers easily rocketed a shot past him for a 3-0 cushion.

The UMass defense held Temple to only 11 shots and Enzo Altomare (Derby, Conn.) recorded a career-high seven saves to earn his fifth shutout of the season. With his next shutout, Altomare will enter the top five of the single-season shutout chart.

The Minutemen, who also tied a school record for longest unbeaten streak at nine games, will take on Saint Joseph's on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in Philadelphia.
