Oct. 22, 2004
BRONX, N.Y. - UMass forward Oral Bullen (Bronx, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal and added an assist as the Minutemen defeated the Fordham Rams, 2-1, on Edwards' Parade.
UMass improves to 7-6-2 on the year, 4-1-2 in the Atlantic 10 while, Fordham falls to 3-9-2 overall, 1-4-2 in the conference.
For the Minutemen, this marked their fourth straight victory.
Sophomore Ralph Pace (Boston, Va.) opened the scoring at the 14:19 mark when he ripped a shot past Fordham keeper Stephen Faber from 22 yards out to the top left corner of the net.
Fordham then got a fortunate bounce late in the first half which knotted the game at one. Fordham's Anthony Akande took a shot from the top of the box which was blocked by Pace. In an attempt to clear, Pace mis-hit the ball knocking it over UMass keeper Colin Burns' (Newark, Del.) head and into the net for an own goal.
UMass regained the lead in the second half with just under ten minutes remaining as Bullen took a pass from freshman Kenny Cook (Fairport, N.Y.) beating the keeper to the far post for the game-winner.
Burns ended the game with two saves, while Faber made four saves.
The Minutemen will next take on LaSalle in Philadelphia on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
