AMHERST, Mass. - Temple got two second-half goals and held off a late Massachusetts attack to claim a 2-0 men's soccer victory at Rudd Field Sunday.

UMass (4-6-2, 1-2 Atlantic 10) came away with a split on the weekend following Friday's victory over Saint Joseph's by the same score.

Temple (7-4-2, 3-0-1) outshot the Minutemen 12-11 despite only putting three on goal.

The first score came shortly after halftime when Cody Calafiore put a one-timer from Vaughn Spurrier inside the left post. It was Calafiore's second goal of the season and came at 50:19.

The Owls added an insurance goal in the 80th minute with Spurrier providing the initial push toward the penalty box. This time Homero Rodriguez recorded his first goal of the year when he eluded a slide tackle near the top of the box, pulled the ball away from a diving Brian Frame and scored on the open net.

UMass' final scoring opportunity came in the 86t minute when Dan Sangster freed himself from a pack inside the box but his shot went just over the crossbar. Brett Canepa led the Minutemen with four shots. Frame finished with one save on the day.

UMass will now hit the road for its next two games, traveling to No. 22 Charlotte on Friday, Oct. 19 and George Washington on Sunday, Oct. 21.
