BRONX, N.Y. - Brett Canepa's penalty kick in the 32nd minute of play proved the game-winner as the UMass men's soccer team defeated Fordham 1-0 in the Bronx on Friday night. The win was the Minutemen's second straight shutout and third victory in the last four matches.

The goal was Canepa's third tally of the season all of which have been game-winners. He now leads UMass in points with seven (3g, 1a).

The win improves UMass to 4-9-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the Atlantic 10, while Fordham falls to 6-5-1 overall and 2-1-0 in league play. The Minutemen will face La Salle on Sunday afternoon.

For the game, Fordham outshot UMass 15-to-5 including a 9-to-2 margin in the first half. The Rams also held a 7-to-3 edge in corner kicks.

Shane Curran-Hays picked up the win making two saves, while Ryan Meara, Fordhams all-time leader in shutouts, made three saves in the loss.
