AMHERST, Mass. - Hartford's David Bernhardsson scored the game-winning goal in the 38th minute of play as the Hawks handed the UMass men's soccer team a 1-0 loss on Wednesday afternoon at Rudd Field. The Minutemen were unable to find the equalizer in the second half despite outshooting Hartford 6-3 in the frame.

UMass falls to 1-7-0 on the season, while Hartford improved to 2-5-1 overall. The Minutemen will head to Dartmouth on Saturday for a 7 PM kick-off.

Bernhardsson scored after a quick cross in transition from Atobra Ampadu. Anthony Santaga started the play as he played the ball up through the UMass defense allowing Ampadu to track it down to set-up the play.

The goal came 53 seconds after the Hawks missed a penalty kick as Bernhardsson hit the upper right cross bar.

In the second half, UMass doubled Hartford in shots, but were unable to find the equalizer.

For the game, Hartford outshot UMass 13-to-10 and earned two more corners with a 7-to-5 edge.

Shane Curran-Hays made four saves in goal for UMass in the loss, while Luke Citriniti made three saves for the win.
