AMHERST, Mass. - Matt Hoff and Anthony Tornaritis each scored first-half goals to lead Harvard to a 3-1 victory over the UMass men's soccer team in the championship match of the UMass Classic on Sunday at Rudd Field.
Harvard's Tornaritis, who was named the tournament's MVP, netted a goal and posted an assist on the Crimson's third goal of the day.
UMass freshman Matty LeMire (Ipswich, Mass.) scored the solo goal for the Minutemen in the 86th minute during a late rally. His second goal of the season found the back of the net just behind the right post.
Hoff started the day's scoring when he took a cross in the box from William Craig in the 31st minute. Harvard then scored again when Tornaritis scored off a corner kick from Pablo Koe Krompecher in the 37th minute.
The Crimson's final goal came from Nicolas Tornaritis who was assisted by his brother Anthony. His goal in the 79th minute came on a break away towards the UMass goal following a touch pass from Anthony.
LeMire then scored to cut the lead to two goals. With just over two minutes left in regulation, UMass was called for an offsides which negated a goal by Richie Higa (Honolulu, Hawaii).
