BURLINGTON, Vt. - Redshirt junior Douglas Rappaport (Tuscon, Ariz.) nailed a penalty kick to the lower left hand corner of the net winning the first game of the Vermont Invitational for UMass. The penalty kick came three minutes into the overtime period after a Vermont foul in the penalty area.

UMass will take on New Hampshire Sunday in the final game of the invitational at 11 a.m.

UMass took the lead in the ninth minute of the game as Bryan Hogan (Lititz, Pa.) headed in his first goal of the season off of a long free kick from Chris Brown (Tuscon, Ariz.). But they would not take any shots on goal in the entire second half allowing Vermont back into the game in the 79th minute. Vermont tied the game up on a Lee Stephane Kouadio 40-yard blast following a long goal kick from Roger Scully. The assist by Scully is his first in his collegiate career at Vermont.

The game stayed tied for the rest of regulation, but for the second game in a row UMass scored in the 94th minute of overtime this time on a penalty kick to win the game. (UMass previously won on a Prince Ofosu tip in against Dartmouth on Monday.)

Each of UMass' games this season have been taken to overtime. The Minutemen are 2-1 with their one loss against Maine in Orono, Maine in their season opener.

In the other game of the Vermont Invitational, Michigan State defeated New Hampshire 2-1. The Spartans are slated to take on the hosting Catamounts in the finale game of the tournament on Sunday.
