Boston U. Sends Minutemen to
Second Straight Loss
Sept. 6, 2002
BOSTON, Mass. - Boston University's Sedrick Chin scored a goal and two assists to lead the host Terriers to a 3-1 win over UMass in men's soccer action on Friday night.
The Minutemen, who have allowed at least two goals in all three games so far this year, fell behind early as Terrier forward Alan McNamara gave B.U. a 1-0 lead at the 21:20 mark. McNamara tipped in a shot by Chin into the lower left corner of the net.
The score stayed the same until late in the second half when Chin notched his first career goal at the 78:07 mark for a 2-0 lead. The goal was assisted by David Fahey, who sent a long pass across the box and found Chin for a wide open shot on goal.
UMass' narrowed the margin to 2-1 just a minute later when Jeff Deren (Chicopee, Mass.) scored his second goal of the year with an assist from Derek Rhodes (DePere, Wis.). Deren forced Terrier goalkeeper Matt Smith to commit at the top of the box and scored off a feed from Rhodes at 79:08.
However, Boston U. added an insurance goal late in the game to give the Terriers the 3-1 victory.
UMass will host the UMass Soccer Classic next weekend at Rudd Field. On Friday, the Minutemen will battle Iona at 4:00 p.m., and on Sunday, UMass hosts Michigan State at 1:00 p.m.
