Tony Bassett will enter his fourth year as an assistant coach in 2012 for UMass working primarily with training sessions, scouting, recruiting, match analysis, as well as day-to-day operations of the program. He also spends time training the Goalkeepers. As a player, Bassett played 4 years at UMass for Coach Koch, from 2005-2008. A very technically gifted attacking central midfielder for his first three seasons with the Minutemen, Bassett was switched to a left back position for his senior year. Starting all 19 games his sophomore year, he helped lead his team to a #22 National Ranking. In his junior year, Bassett helped the Minutemen finished with a #4 overall National Ranking and captured the Atlantic 10 Title, followed by a miracle NCAA tournament run all the way to the College Cup in Cary, NC. During his senior year in 2008, he helped the UMass Men's Soccer program receive their first ever at large bid to the NCAA tournament where they hosted Harvard in the First Round. Bassett also has experience with Coaching at the Club and Olympic Development Program (ODP) levels. In August of 2009, he served as an assistant coach to Trevor Singer (Graduate Assistant Coach at the University of Temple) for the 92 Maine Boys ODP State Team. That team finished first in its group at Regionals in New Jersey and advanced to the semi-finals in Delaware for the first time in state history. In 2004-2005, Bassett helped as an Assistant Coach for Josh Kalkstein's '90 Marin Futbol Club (Marin FC) Boys team in Northern California. In 2010, he worked with Western United's U-10 Developmental Academy with former UMass graduate and Amherst H.S Soccer Coach, Derek Shea. He currently is the Head Coach U15 FC Massachusetts Boys club team working for Ed Matz, as well as their U10 Boys Developmental Academy. In June of 2011, he received his Advanced National Diploma from NSCAA. In June of 2010, he received his "C" Coaching License from USSF. In March of 2012 Bassett attended the Ajax Futbol Club Coaches Symposium in Amsterdam, and received an Ajax Youth Academy Coaching Certification.
