Freshman Rush Hawkins has been tearing things up on the slopes.

AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts men's skiing freshman Rush Hawkins (Shelburne, Mass.) was named the Dinn Brothers / UMass Athlete of the Week today, for his skiing performance over the weekend.

Hawkins won the Giant Slalom finishing first out of 67 competitors with a two-race time of 1:49.19, more than two seconds faster than the second-place finisher who checked in at 1:51.47. The win was Hawkins sixth first place finish out of nine races he has completed this season, and fourth victory in the GS. In the slalom, Hawkins was also impressive placing eighth out of 62 competitors with a time of 1:41.20.

Individually, Hawkins leads the MacConnell Division in the men's individual standings with 197 net points, while as a team, the UMass men are fifth out of 10 teams in the Eastern College Ski Conference with 44 points.

UMass men's and women's skiing both return to action on Sunday, Feb. 22 with the USCSA Eastern Regionals held at Waterville Valley, N.H.

The UMass Women's Ski Team captured a trip to the USCSA Nationals next weekend after their fifth place finish in last weekend's ECSC Regionals. The Minutewomen placed three skiers in the top-15 during both days of the Regionals. The Minutemen had a tough day in Saturday's Slalom, finishing in ninth place before recovering with a second place finish in the Giant Slalom.     The UMass Ski team competed in the ECSC Regionals this past weekend in Waterville Valley, N.H. The women's team finished fifth overall, securing a spot in the USCSA Nationals in Winter Park, Colo. from March 3-7. The Men's team finished sixth overall after a disappointing ninth place finish in the Slalom before a second place finish in Sunday's Giant Slalom. UMass Skiing will be back in action this weekend when they will participate in the EISA Regionals at Sugarloff.
    UMass Skiing Prepares For ECSC Regionals At Waterville Valley
    UMass Skiing will travel to Waterville Valley, N.H. this weekend to compete in the ECSC Regionals. The Minutemen are coming off a successful weekend at the Boston College Carnival, where they locked a spot for the USCSA Regionals. The men's team finished second in the Giant Slalom before a sixth place Slalom finish while the women placed fourth in Friday's Giant Slalom before finishing fifth in the Slalom. The Men's team finished the regular season in third place in the MacConnell standings, while the Minutewomen finished fifth.
