Minutemen Finish In Seventh At USCSA Nationals

WINTER PARK, Colo. - The UMass men's ski team wrapped up action at the USCSA Nationals on Saturday by finishing in seventh place overall. They stood in fifth after Thursday's Giant Slalom, but slid to seventh after the Giant Slalom. Sophomore Alex Zahoruiko led the way on Saturday, finishing in 25th place overall. Senior Rush Hawkins had a successful weekend, finishing in 13th.

Alex Zahoruiko was first to finish for UMass, finishing in 25th overall with a time of 1:38.82. He was followed by Rush Hawkins in 33rd (1:41.47) and freshman Travis Hopkins in 68th (1:56.62).

Freshmen Ian Hohmeister and Andrew Hawes both competed, but did not finish.

The UMass Women's Ski Team captured a trip to the USCSA Nationals next weekend after their fifth place finish in last weekend's ECSC Regionals. The Minutewomen placed three skiers in the top-15 during both days of the Regionals. The Men's team, the defending USCSA National Champions, will not be returning to the Nationals after their sixth place finish over the weekend. The Minutemen had a tough day in Saturday's Slalom, finishing in ninth place before recovering with a second place finish in the Giant Slalom.     The UMass Ski team competed in the ECSC Regionals this past weekend in Waterville Valley, N.H. The women's team finished fifth overall, securing a spot in the USCSA Nationals in Winter Park, Colo. from March 3-7. The Men's team finished sixth overall after a disappointing ninth place finish in the Slalom before a second place finish in Sunday's Giant Slalom. UMass Skiing will be back in action this weekend when they will participate in the EISA Regionals at Sugarloff.
    UMass Skiing Prepares For ECSC Regionals At Waterville Valley
    UMass Skiing will travel to Waterville Valley, N.H. this weekend to compete in the ECSC Regionals. The Minutemen are coming off a successful weekend at the Boston College Carnival, where they locked a spot for the USCSA Regionals. The men's team finished second in the Giant Slalom before a sixth place Slalom finish while the women placed fourth in Friday's Giant Slalom before finishing fifth in the Slalom. The Men's team finished the regular season in third place in the MacConnell standings, while the Minutewomen finished fifth.
