Men's Ski Team Places Fifth At USCSA Nationals

Truckee, Calif. - The University of Massachusetts men's ski team finished fifth in the overall at the USCSA National Championships, held March 3-8, in Truckee, Calif. The squad placed fifth in the giant slalom and seventh in the slalom.
Junior captain Beau Gibson (Oakland, Md.) led the way for the Minutemen, finishing fourth overall. Gibson skied to fifth place in the giant slalom and finished the slalom event in seventh. Graduate student Nick Kulkarni (Troy, Mich.) registered a 16th place time in the giant slalom, but did not finish the slalom event. Senior Jay Robbins (Pittsfield, Mass.) and junior David Pomeroy (Winthrop, Mass.) placed 47th and 48th, respectively, in the giant slalom. Both skiers also competed in the slalom event and posted top-30 times.
Leading up to the National Championships, the men's squad had placed second at the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships. In the regular season, they finished third in the MacConnell Division of the Eastern Collegiate Skiing Conference (ECSC).
