Jason Small placed second at USCSA Regionals

Feb. 25, 2008

Waterville Valley, N.H.- Senior Jason Small and sophomore Andrew Hawes dominated the Slalom as the UMass men's ski team took first at the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships. For this particular event, the top three finishers from each team would be counted in the overall points total. Small was the first to score for the Minutemen as he took second place with a combined time of 1:29.25. Hawes was next to score for the Minutemen as he placed fifth with a combined time of 1:32.63. Not to be outdone by his brother, sophomore Matthew Small placed tenth with a time of 1:35.91. With UMass' top three finishers all in the top ten, the Minutemen were able to come out on top with a victory.

Senior Eliza Hawkins had a great day at the USCASA Regional Slalom competition. She placed third with a time of 1:41.35 to lead her team to a third place finish just behind Colby-Sawyer and Boson College. Emily Shilletto was next to place for the Minutewomen as she crossed the finish line at 1:1:42.34 placing fifth. Ashley Hawes took 11th with a time of 1:45.24 to rounding out the top finishers for the Minutewomen. Even though Heidi Skinner and freshman Jaime Taloumis did not place, they both skied well coming in at 1:45.24 and 2:00.88 respectively.

The Minutemen and women return to the slopes on March 2nd for the USCSA Nationals being held at Sunday River, Maine.
