Men's skiing returns to action with the NCAA Eastern Regionals on Feb. 27th.

AMHERST, Mass. - Freshman Rush Hawkins (Shelburne, Mass.) won the Giant Slalom out of 67 competitors with a two-race time of 1:49.19, more than two seconds faster than the second-place finisher who checked in at 1:51.47. The win was Hawkins sixth first place finish out of nine races he has finished this year, and fourth victory in the GS. Sophomore Patrick Bachant (Hubbardston, Mass.) finished 11 overall with a two-run time of 1:54.55 and senior captain David Pomeroy (Winthrop, Mass.) who finished 13 overall with a two-run time of 1:54.65. As a team the men placed fourth in the GS with a score of 577.19.

In the slalom, Pomeroy turned in the top UMass performance with a sixth place finish out of 62 entrants with a two-race time of 1:40.08 while Hawkins was close behind with an eighth place finish time of 1:41.20. Bachant also placed among the top-15 with an 11 place finished time of 1:41.77 helping the men's team to a third place showing as a team with 519.08 points.

Individually, Hawkins leads the MacConnell Division in the men's individual standings with 197 net points, while Maxfield leads the women's individual leaderboard with 199 net points. As a team, the UMass women currently sit in first place out of 10 teams in the Eastern Collegiate Ski Conference with 22 points, while the men are fifth out of 10 teams with 44 points.

UMass men's skiing returns to action on Friday, Feb. 27 with the NCAA Eastern Regionals held at the Snow Bowl in Middlebury, Vt.

Q&A With Head Ski Coach Skip Fox Recapping The ECSC Regionals
The UMass Women's Ski Team captured a trip to the USCSA Nationals next weekend after their fifth place finish in last weekend's ECSC Regionals. The Minutewomen placed three skiers in the top-15 during both days of the Regionals. The Men's team, the defending USCSA National Champions, will not be returning to the Nationals after their sixth place finish over the weekend. The Minutemen had a tough day in Saturday's Slalom, finishing in ninth place before recovering with a second place finish in the Giant Slalom. Andrew Hawes, Matthew Small and Travis Hopkins will participate in the NCAA EISA Eastern Regional Championships this weekend at Sugarloaf.

Men's Skiing Places Six, Women Fifth, At ECSC Regionals

    The UMass Ski team competed in the ECSC Regionals this past weekend in Waterville Valley, N.H. The women's team finished fifth overall, securing a spot in the USCSA Nationals in Winter Park, Colo. from March 3-7. The Men's team finished sixth overall after a disappointing ninth place finish in the Slalom before a second place finish in Sunday's Giant Slalom. UMass Skiing will be back in action this weekend when they will participate in the EISA Regionals at Sugarloff.

    UMass Skiing Prepares For ECSC Regionals At Waterville Valley
    UMass Skiing will travel to Waterville Valley, N.H. this weekend to compete in the ECSC Regionals. The Minutemen are coming off a successful weekend at the Boston College Carnival, where they locked a spot for the USCSA Regionals. The men's team finished second in the Giant Slalom before a sixth place Slalom finish while the women placed fourth in Friday's Giant Slalom before finishing fifth in the Slalom. The Men's team finished the regular season in third place in the MacConnell standings, while the Minutewomen finished fifth.
