CRANMORE, Conn. - At the UConn Carnival, Rush Hawkins (Shelburne, Mass.) and Eliza Hawkins (Shelburne, Mass.) each finished first in the giant slalom to lead UMass. Due to heavy rains, the slalom portion of the meet was cancelled. The men finished second in the nine team field with a combined time of 358.51, while the women finished third in the ten team field in 227.73.

Rush Hawkins finished with a total time of 1:09.75. In second place was Jason Small (Shelburne Falls, Mass.) who finished in 1:09.76. Pat Bachant (Hubbardston, Mass.) finished in 1:12.81 quickly followed by Alex Zahoruiko (North Andover, Mass.) who finished in 1:12.83. Rounding out the top-five finishers for the men was James Green (Andover, Mass.) with a time of 1:13.36.

Eliza Hawkins led the women with her total time of 1:14.35. Caitlin Doughty (Quincy, Mass.) finished in ninth with a total time of 1:16.58. Rounding out the top-three finishes that figued in the team time was Shaleighne Collins (North Reading, Mass.) who finished in 1:16.80.

UMass returns to action on January 21 at the Plymouth State Carnival in Waterville with the slalom event. The giant slalom follows on January 22.

The UMass Women's Ski Team captured a trip to the USCSA Nationals next weekend after their fifth place finish in last weekend's ECSC Regionals. The Minutewomen placed three skiers in the top-15 during both days of the Regionals. The Men's team, the defending USCSA National Champions, will not be returning to the Nationals after their sixth place finish over the weekend. The Minutemen had a tough day in Saturday's Slalom, finishing in ninth place before recovering with a second place finish in the Giant Slalom. Andrew Hawes, Matthew Small and Travis Hopkins will participate in the NCAA EISA Eastern Regional Championships this weekend at Sugarloaf.

    The UMass Ski team competed in the ECSC Regionals this past weekend in Waterville Valley, N.H. The women's team finished fifth overall, securing a spot in the USCSA Nationals in Winter Park, Colo. from March 3-7. The Men's team finished sixth overall after a disappointing ninth place finish in the Slalom before a second place finish in Sunday's Giant Slalom. UMass Skiing will be back in action this weekend when they will participate in the EISA Regionals at Sugarloff.
    UMass Skiing Prepares For ECSC Regionals At Waterville Valley
    UMass Skiing will travel to Waterville Valley, N.H. this weekend to compete in the ECSC Regionals. The Minutemen are coming off a successful weekend at the Boston College Carnival, where they locked a spot for the USCSA Regionals. The men's team finished second in the Giant Slalom before a sixth place Slalom finish while the women placed fourth in Friday's Giant Slalom before finishing fifth in the Slalom. The Men's team finished the regular season in third place in the MacConnell standings, while the Minutewomen finished fifth.
