Five Minutemen Lacrosse Players Named To All-ECAC Academic Team Five UMass players were named to the All-ECAC Academic Team on Tuesday. Senior attacker Tim Balise, junior midfielder Bobby Hayes, senior defenseman Brennan Mack, sophomore long-pole and sophomore midfielder Stephen Zorkers were named to the team. Former UMass All-American lacrosse players Chris Fiore and Kevin Leveille have been named to the "Old School" roster for the 2009 Major League Lacrosse All-Star game. The eighth-annual game takes place at Denver's INVESCO Field at Mile High on Thursday, July 16. Also, UMass alum Bill Edell will serve as an assistant coach with the "Old School" team. (more)
Former UMass lacrosse All-Americans Kevin Leveille and Jack Reid have been named to Team USA's 40-man training team in preparation of the 2010 World Games being held in Manchester, England. Both players finished a three-day tryout camp held at Bryant University this week. All 40 players will have an opportunity to compete in the Federation of
International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championship held from July 10-24, 2010. (more)

UMass men's lacrosse senior attackman Tim Balise was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American First-Team, At-Large. Balise is the first-ever men's lacrosse player from UMass named to the team and is just the second ever to be honored by the organization. Last year, Balise was a second-team honoree joining 1998 second-teammer Harold Drumm. Balise joins men's soccer goalkeeper Zack Simmons as UMass' only other first-team selection in 2008-09.
A quartet of former UMass lacrosse All-Americans have been invited to tryout for Team USA for the 2010 World Games, which take place every four years. Midfielder Chris Fiore, attackmen Kevin Leveille and Sean Morris and defenseman Jack Reid begin Team USA Camp on June 8 in Rhode Island.
Thirty-three countries will meet in 2010 in Manchester, England to compete. In 2006 at the last World Games, Canada beat USA to break the U.S. men's team's six World Games victory streak.
UMass All-American goalie Doc Schneider was drafted 13th overall in the 2009 Major League Lacrosse draft, by the Toronto Nationals, held Wednesday night at Stevens Tech in New Jersey. Picked in the second round, Schneider joins former UMass All-American attacker Jeff Zywicki with the new Canadian-based professional team.
