Morris & Reid Named Preseason First Team All-Americans
Dec. 30, 2005 AMHERST, Mass. - UMass senior attacker Sean Morris (Marshfield, Mass.) and defender Jack Reid (Glastonbury, Conn.) were named Inside Lacrosse/Face-Off Yearbook's Preseason First Team All-Americans. UMass was just one of three schools (Duke, Maryland) to have multiple players on the first team. Morris comes off an amazing season in which he was a finalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy as college lacrosse's top player. He was a USILA Second Team All-American led UMass and the ECAC in scoring with 69 points. He tied for the team and ECAC lead in goals with 44, with fellow attacker Zywicki. Morris was named the ECAC Offensive Player of the Year and earned a spot on the ECAC First Team. He has been among the national leaders in goals and scoring all season finishing with 4.32 points per game and 2.75 goals per game. He was named the ECAC Offensive Player of the Week four times in addition to being named the conference preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Reid, who was on the Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List for much of the season is one of the top defenders in the nation. Reid earned his second All-American accolade from the USILA in 2005. He was an Honorable Mention All-American as a sophomore in 2004. A member of the ECAC First Team, he led UMass in groundballs (57) and caused turnovers (33). He aided a UMass defense which allowed less than 10 goals on 10 occasions and ranked among the national leaders in goals against average for much of the season. He was the ECAC Defensive Player of the Week on March 21. He was also named to the ECAC Second Team in 2003.
