Men's Lacrosse Announces 2012 Schedule

AMHERST, Mass. - Six home games at Garber Field along with a match-up against Hofstra at Gillette Stadium highlight the 2012 UMass men's lacrosse schedule as announced on Friday. The Minutemen will officially start the season on Feb. 10 at Army before opening the home slate on Feb. 18 against Bucknell.
Following the Bucknell game, UMass will head to Ohio State (2/25) and Brown (3/3) before returning home for a pair of games against Albany (3/6) and Hartford (3/10).
A rematch of last season's CAA Semifinal will see the Minutemen head to Penn State on March 17. UMass won the semifinal match-up in overtime to advance to CAA Championship game against Delaware.
UMass will host three-straight home games after a bye week starting with a night game against Harvard (3/27). Saint Joseph's and Towson will visit Garber Field on each of the following Saturday's.
On April 14, UMass will take on Drexel at Bethpage High School in Bethpage, N.Y. - just 17 miles from head coach Greg Cannella's hometown of Lynbrook on Long Island. All told, seven Minutemen will make the hometown return to Long Island along with assistant coaches Doc Schneider and Brian Jacovina.
The Minutemen will then head to Gillette Stadium for the first time in program history as UMass takes on Hofstra on April 21.
The regular-season finale will see UMass head to Delaware (4/27). The CAA Playoffs will begin the following Wednesday (5/2) with the Championship game set for May 5.
The Minutemen finished the 2011 campaign with a 10-5 record including a 5-2 mark in the Colonial Athletic Association.
Following a dramatic 10-9 overtime win at Penn State in the CAA Semifinals, UMass closed its season with a tough 9-7 loss at Garber Field to Delaware in the CAA Championship.
UMass returns its top three leading scorers in junior Will Manny (22g, 23a), senior Art Kell (28g, 16a) and senior Anthony Biscardi (20g, 10a). Overall, seven of the Minutemen's top eight scorers will be back for 2012.
Defensively, 2011 starters Tom Celentani, Greg Anderson and Jake Smith all return along with senior goalie Tim McCormack who posted an 8.33 goal-against-average and a .548 save percentage as the goalie of record.
