Lax Alum Fiore To Play For MLL Title, Sunday On ESPN2
Aug. 21, 2010
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Former UMass All-American Chris Fiore will play for the Major League Lacrosse championship on Sunday at 1 p.m., on ESPN2. His Long Island Lizards will take on the Chesapeake Bayhawks in the pro outdoor lacrosse championship. On Saturday, Fiore scored the Lizards' go-ahead goal in a 16-12 win over Denver to clinch a spot in the final. Fiore's unassisted goal with 4:01 left in the third quarter broke a 10-10 tie and gave Long Island an 11-10 lead on the way to the 16-12 win over the Outlaws. For the year, Fiore has 10 goals including four 2-pointers and an assist for 15 points. UMass' other alum with a chance to play in the MLL final was denied in the first semifinal on Saturday. Jack Reid and his Boston Cannons lost to the Bayhawks, 13-9. Reid had a groundball in the defeat. Fiore is seeking to continue UMass' run of alums winning lacrosse championships. Jeff Zywicki captured both the National Lacrosse League and Major League Lacrosse championships in the last year. He won the 2009 MLL title with the Toronto Nationals along with alum and current assistant coach Doc Schneider. Again, watch Sunday 1 p.m., on ESPN2 and look for Fiore in No. 21 for the Lizards.
