Lacrosse Magazine: Elder Statesman Leveille Voted Team USA Captain

DENVER - University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse alumnus Kevin Leveille (2000-03) was selected as the United States National Team captain for the squad's upcoming competition at the 2014 FIL World Championship, as voted upon by his Team USA peers Tuesday evening.

"A couple people threw my name out and no one else was going, so I kind of just ran with it," Leveille told Lacrosse Magazine. "It's been a great start to the week for us. Being together as a group and feeling it grow organically. It's a really smart and advanced group. It's been a lot of fun so far."

Leveille, who earned three USILA All-America honors as a Minuteman, is the oldest member of the national squad. He is set to make his first appearance as a member of the active roster for the FIL World Championship after Leveille served as an alternate and traveled with Team USA when it won gold in 2010.

A native of Delmar, N.Y., Leveille stands 13th all-time in points (159) at UMass. He secured the ninth-most goals (105) among Minutemen in the history of the program and took home his all-America awards following the 2001, 2002 and 2003 seasons.

Leveille currently plays professionally for Major League Lacrosse's Rochester Rattlers franchise, where he eclipsed the previous record for career goals scored in MLL with his 271st, earned during a double-overtime win at Chesapeake on June 5, 2014.

Team USA opens competition at the FIL World Championship, hosted in Denver, Colo., with a game against Canada on Thursday, July 10.
