Manny, Oliveri Earn Weekly CAA Awards
April 22, 2013
RICHMOND, Va. - UMass men's lacrosse senior attack Will Manny and redshirt-freshman goalie Zach Oliveri were named CAA Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, on Monday afternoon. For Manny, the honor marked the fifth of his career as a Minuteman while Oliveri added a third rookie honor on the season.
Manny helped lead UMass to a 9-8 come-from-behind victory over No. 20 Hofstra on Saturday evening with a single-game career-high six assists, the most in one contest by a CAA student-athlete this year and tied for the sixth-most among all NCAA Division I men's lacrosse players. The Massapequa, N.Y., native's final helper came on the eventual game-winning goal earned by classmate Colin Fleming with six seconds to play in regulation. Oliveri secured 13 saves, including five during the crucial third quarter and two more in the fourth when the Minutemen turned a 6-3 halftime deficit into a one-goal lead on two occasions.
Manny shares the CAA Player of the Week honor with Drexel's Robert Church, who recorded four goals and three assists against Towson. UMass closes the regular season with 2013 Senior Night, hosting Delaware (5-9 overall, 1-4 CAA) on Friday, April 26.
