McCormack Named CAA Player Of The Week
April 17, 2012
AMHERST, Mass. - After making 14 saves highlighted by nine in the second half, No. 1 UMass men's lacrosse senior goalie Tim McCormack was named the CAA Player of the Week as announced by the league office. The win was McCormack's 11th of the season and improved the Minutemen to 5-0 in conference play. The Long Beach, N.Y. native shutout the Dragons in the third quarter and made four saves in the fourth as the Minutemen rallied for an 8-6 win. He was named the game's MVP for his performance. This marked the first CAA award for McCormack this season and the fifth overall for a UMass player (in 10 weeks of play). McCormack leads the CAA in goals-against-average (6.02) and in save percentage (.650). Nationally, he ranks second in both categories. As a team, the Minutemen ranks third nationally in scoring defense allowing just 6.18 goals per game. The Minutemen have two more games left on the regular-season schedule - Saturday vs. Hofstra at Gillette Stadium and April 27 at Delaware. A win on Saturday against Hofstra would assure UMass of the CAA Regular-Season championship and the No. 1 seed in the league championship tournament. The top two seeds will host the CAA Semifinals on May 2 with the championship game being hosted by the highest remaining seed on Saturday, May 5. Tickets for the 3rd Annual New England Lacrosse Classic are $15 for individuals and $10 for groups with free parking for the doubleheader. Tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster. Youth organizations and group sales will be managed through Gillette Stadium (508-549-0178).
