AMHERST, Mass. - Preseason All-American Jack Reid (Glastonbury, Conn.) was named the ECAC Defensive Player of Week in addition to being the UMass/Dinn Brothers Athlete of the Week after leading UMass to a 12-5 win over Brown last Saturday. Reid aided UMass' defense in holding the Bears scoreless for 32:54 from late in the first quarter to early in the fourth quarter.

Reid shutdown Brown's preseason All-American Chazz Woodson, holding him scoreless as he turned the ball over five times.

Reid piled up five groundballs in the win and also caused three turnovers. He also posted his first career point, as he assisted Gene Tundo's third-quarter goal.

In Tuesday's game at Albany, Reid had a strong game with five groundballs and four caused turnovers as the Minutemen lost to the Great Danes, 10-9.

Overall, the 2004 All-American, has started all five games this season and has a team-high 15 groundballs and is tied for the lead in caused turnovers with 10.

Reid will be honored at this week's sports luncheon on Wednesday, March 23. The event will be held at the Campus Center Room 1009. The winter scholar-athletes will be honored. There are no guest speakers.
