Manny Named To Tewaaraton Award Watch List
Feb. 22, 2013
WASHINGTON D.C. - UMass men's lacrosse senior attack Will Manny was named to the 2013 Tewaaraton Award Watch List after becoming a finalist for the laurel during last season, as announced by the honor's governing foundation on Friday morning. Manny is one of 67 student-athletes named to the initial men's announcement and one of five from the Colonial Athletic Association.
Manny entered 2013 with 167 career points on 93 goals and 74 assists, the 11th-most in school history and only three points shy of joining the top-10. The now-senior produced a career-best 77 points on 44 tallies and 33 helpers last season, earning a Tewaaraton Award Finalist nod in recognition of his success leading the Minutemen to a 15-0 regular season finish and No. 1 national ranking.
The Massapequa, N.Y., native is currently sidelined with a thumb injury suffered prior to the contest against No. 4 North Carolina, but is expected to return. The Minutemen continue their season in Cambridge, Mass., at Harvard with a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday, Feb. 23.
About The Tewaaraton Award: The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and top female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation. Committees will make additions to these lists as the season progresses and athletes earn a spot alongside these elite players. Both lists will be narrowed to 25 men's and women's nominees in late April. In mid-May, five men's and five women's finalists will be announced. These finalists will be invited to Washington, D.C. for the 13th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony, May 30 at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian.
