RICHMOND, Va. - Massachusetts men's lacrosse freshman Nick Mariano earned CAA Player of the Week and CAA Co-Rookie of the Week after he helped the Minutemen defeat No. 14/9 Ohio State, 12-11 in overtime on Sunday evening. Competing on national television, Mariano tallied four goals in the game broadcast live on NBC Sports Network, with his final strike earning UMass the game-winner with seven seconds left in overtime.

Mariano has six goals through two career games after he struck for a pair of tallies in the season-opening victory at Army on Feb. 8. The Mohegan Lake, N.Y., native shares the rookie of the week award with Drexel's Cole Shafer, who had four goals during the Dragons' 11-10 loss to No. 7/8 Virginia.

The Minutemen host their home opener when Harvard visits Garber Field for a 1 p.m. game on Saturday, Feb. 22.
