AMHERST, Mass. - The New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) announced its 2014 preseason all-New England selections on Thursday afternoon, with four Minutemen earning recognition. Redshirt-junior midfielder Ryan Izzo, senior attackman and midfielder Connor Mooney and redshirt-sophomore goalie Zach Oliveri were placed on the NEILA Preseason All-New England First Team while junior attackman Grant Whiteway took in second team honors.

Izzo scooped up 52 groundballs and caused 10 turnovers in 15 appearances as a redshirt-sophomore during the 2013 season. He earned All-CAA Second Team and CAA All-Tournament Team honors while also contributing three points on offense during the campaign.

Mooney provided 29 points through 22 goals and seven assists as a first-line midfielder in 2013. The active leading scorer among all Minutemen, Mooney was a NEILA First Team All-New England pick as a junior.

Oliveri was the starting goalie as a redshirt-freshman last year and backstopped the UMass defense with an 8.63 goals-against average and .559 save percentage. The CAA All-Rookie Team selection was part of the Massachusetts squad that ranked ninth in the nation for man-down defense and 16th in scoring defense during 2013.

Whiteway finished his sophomore campaign with 32 points on 26 goals and six assists. Five of those tallies were earned during man-up situations, tied with Mooney for the team lead in the category, while the Billerica, Mass., native also scooped up 11 groundballs.

The Minutemen continue their 2014 season with a trip to EverBank Field in Jacksonville, Fla., where they will take on No. 14/9 Ohio State at 9:15 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16 live on NBC Sports Network.
