Syracuse Head Coach John Desko on the loss and Syracuse tradition:
I think after a game like this we appreciate the streak more (22 consecutive semifinal appearances).
Coach Desko on former player Mike Powell's #22 not being worn this season:
I thought it would be a lot of pressure for a player. Jay (Pfeifer) was contemplating wearing #22 and would have definitely been worthy, but he has three rings in his #2 jersey. We decided it would be a good idea to leave it on the shelf for a year. Next season or the one after would definitely be a possibility.
Senior goaltender Jay Pfeifer on his pre-game speech:
I didn't really have to get the guys pumped up. It was a playoff game so everyone was pretty up for it.
Brian Crockett on the familiar nature of a one-goal loss:
I do not know the exact numbers but we have lost close games this season and one goal games. And, no team has really blown us out. We have had a hard time closing them out games and this is another example.
Massachusetts Head Coach Greg Cannella on decision to play goaltender Efosa Guobadia:
It was the hardest decision I have made in 11 years. I know that it would kill Billy (Schell) not to start because he is a senior, but it killed me too. I had a lot of confidence in Efosa. Not that I did not have a lot of confidence in Billy because I do, but I knew that Efosa would be ready to play.
Junior attack Sean Morris on if team felt extra motivated by talk of them being the underdog:
You should have seen our 37 faces when we heard, the Syracuse/John's Hopkins game will be a great match up. It definitely motivated us.
Coach Cannella on how they focused all week to contain Syracuse:
We were worried about UMass and what we had to do. It is important to know your opponent but we had to focus on what we were going to do.
Morris on feeling frustrated when senior attack Jeff Zywicki was scoring with ease early on when he was not:
I would not care if I didn't score and Jeff had six goals. The important part is the win.
Zywicki on goal celebration with Morris:
It was more of a summersault than a front flip.
