Kell, Manny Net 4 Goals In 16-9 #14 UMass Win At St. Joe's

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - UMass attackmen Art Kell and Will Manny each scored four goals as the No. 14 UMass men's lacrosse team downed Saint Joseph's, 16-9, on Saturday at Finnessy Field in Philadelphia. UMass was 5-6 on man-up as the Minutemen led by nine on two occasions. UMass moves to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in the CAA.
Kell had two assists for six points in the game while Manny also had an assist for five points.
For Manny, the four goals equaled his career-high set at Hartford earlier this year. It was his sixth-career hat trick. Kell has his 10th-career game with at least three goals.
UMsss used a pair of 5-0 runs to take control of the game. The Minutemen opened the contest with the first of those runs to 5-0 less than 10 minutes into the action as Kell had a hat trick at the that points. The other two goals came from Manny.
Manny scored to start the second quarter to give the Minutemen two players with hat tricks. Kyle Smith scored on the man-up to end the Kell-Manny scoring run as he made it 7-2 with 5:21 left in the second quarter.
After the Hawks scored the first goal of the second half, UMass had its second 5-0 run with goals from five different players: Hantverk, Greg Rushing, K.R. Jurgelevich, Manny and Kell. That made it 13-4 with 4:55 left in the third.
Face-offs were key all day as Rushing returned to action after missing the last three games with mono. In addition to his third-career goal, Rushing won 6-of-9 face-offs. Anthony Toresco won 10-of-15 and Joe Calvello captured 4-of-5 as UMass won 20-of-29 in the game.
Saint Joseph's (0-8, 0-3 CAA) was led by Matt Dougherty, who had three goals and Kyle Williams, who had two goals and four assists.
In goal, Tim McCormack made 10 saves, allowing just seven goals.
